The City of Woodbury was named the 2018 City of the Year at the Minnesota Real Estate Journal awards gala April 11.
Woodbury was recognized for major projects completed in the community during the prior 14 months and for facilitating development. City staff presented the award to the City Council at its April 25 meeting.
The new projects listed as part of the city’s nomination included medical, office and retail developments. Woodbury’s residential development was also highlighted in the nomination. In 2017, the city approved the creation of 1,179 new residential lots, and issued permits for 646 new housing units, which includes a large apartment complex, Ascend at Woodbury (formerly called Woodbury Flats). The Legends of Woodbury, an affordable senior apartment complex, is currently under construction.
In addition to the City of the Year award, six development projects from Woodbury were selected as finalists, with one project, St. Therese Senior Living, being selected as winner in the senior living category. The other finalists located in Woodbury were Courtyard by Marriott (hospitality category); City Place (retail/restaurant); TRIA Orthopaedic Center (medical); Twin Cities Orthopedics (medical); and Minnesota Eye Consultants (medical).
In total, more than 225 nominations were submitted in 15 categories.
